Travel to Washington, D.C. – Washington, D.C. is served by 3 area airports – Reagan Washington National (National), Dulles International and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). All three airports are within one hour of the NIH Campus, and Metro subway system is accessible only from National Airport. Union Station in Washington, D.C., provides Amtrak service, and is accessible by Metro.
For transportation to the NIH Campus, please use either taxicabs or the Metro subway system. NIH is located at the Medical Center Station on the Red Line. For more information regarding the subway system, you may access the Metro Web site at www.wmata.com. Because parking on the NIH Campus is extremely limited, please do not drive to the symposium. Public transportation or taxicab is the best way to travel to the NIH campus.
When you exit the escalator from the Metro, follow the signs along the fence on your left side to the pedestrian entrance to NIH. You will need to go to the Visitors Center to be cleared by NIH Security to enter the NIH Campus. The Visitors Center is on your left just past the campus entrance. Once you have passed through Security, follow the sidewalk to the Natcher Conference Center (a large green glass building), and enter through the front of the building. Please allow at least 20 minutes time to get from the Metro to the Natcher Center, and comfortable shoes are recommended. For a map of this path, please click on http://dtts.ors.od.nih.gov/gateway_map.htm. Due to increased security on the NIH campus, please make sure that you have a government-issued photo ID (e.g., drivers license or passport). You will be asked to present this to NIH Security. Any bags or suitcases are subject to search by Security personnel.
